Ages 10 & under, 11-12 and 13-14. USA Swimming AAA times are the meet's qualifying standard. Each LSC sends up to 80 swimmers and 400 entries.

Central Zone

Central Zone 14 & Under Championships
August 5–8, 2027 · three regional meets: Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; West Fargo, North Dakota; Elkhart, Indiana
Ages 10 & under, 11-12 and 13-14. In 2026 any National AAA time, in any course, qualified. Each 2027 region sets its own standards, which aren't posted yet. No limit per LSC.

Southern Zone

Southern Zone Age Group Championships
summer 2027 (not announced; 2026 was July 29–August 1) · not announced (Orlando, Florida in 2026)
Ages 11-12 and 13-14. There is no zone qualifying time. A swimmer can't enter an event in which they hold a Summer Junior National cut. Each LSC sends up to 12 girls and 12 boys per age group.

Questions parents ask

What is Age Group Zones in swimming?
USA Swimming's four zones (Western, Central, Southern and Eastern) each hold a summer long course championship for 14 & under swimmers, who go as a team representing their LSC. It's the biggest age group meet most swimmers reach.
How do you qualify for Zones?
It depends on the zone and the LSC. Central Zone takes anyone with a National AAA time. Most Eastern LSCs take anyone with the zone cut. Southern LSCs can send only 12 per gender and age group, so they rank swimmers. Western LSCs mix both. Each LSC's page explains its own rule.
Is a AAA time enough to make the Zone team?
In LSCs that take anyone with the cut, yes. In LSCs that rank (Pacific Northwest, Colorado, Sierra Nevada and most of the Southern Zone), a AAA time helps but the ranking decides, so check where your swimmer stands.
